On the morning of Thursday, August 23, 2012 a fire engulfed 95 Columbia Street in Central Sq, Cambridge, MA - a space lovingly refered to as "Columbia House". Thankfully, everyone made it out alive. Most of the residents were local musicians, artists and performers. Unfortunately, not everything could be salvaged and much of their personal possessions and instruments were lost to the fire.
Immediately following the fire the local artistic and music community pulled together to donate funds, clothing, food, and housing to those affected. A series of benefit shows were organized around the city with all the proceeds going to the victims of the fire. Many artists/bands on this compilation took part in those benefits.
All the proceeds from this compilation will go to benefit the victims of the Columbia House fire.
(Update: This comp raised just under 300 dollar for the victims. Thank you to everyone that purchased it. We were happy to help, even if only in a small way. Our only regret is since Midday Records is just getting off the ground we are not reaching as many people as we would like, so please continue to suggest and "like" us at:
www.facebook.com/middayrecords. The more we grow than the more we can help promote and give exposure to these amazing, hard working artists while helping YOU discover great new music!
This compilation will now be available as a FREE download.
released September 14, 2012
Thank you to all the artists and bands for submitting their music for this benefit compilation. Every artist appearing on this release was unsolicited and volunteered their work in an effort to help raise funds for those affected by the fire. This compilation is truly a snapshot of the amazing and eclectic music and performance art scene in and around Boston. It features styles and genres all across the musical spectrum and is a representation of the rich tapestry that was (and is) Columbia House.
